Exterior Painting
There are a number of steps required to ensure an exterior paint job is done correctly. Many people watch the “do-it-yourself” shows, yet do not realize that using the wrong products can seriously damage your home, or the problems that can results when trying to paint without proper preparation or tools. When working with Southern Painting, you can expect our Five-Step Exterior Process to give your home the protection it deserves.
- Power Wash - All buildings will have a layer of dirt and/or mildew that require removal prior to application of any products. It is, after all, only common sense not to paint on a dirty surface, right? We do this by power washing with the right cleaners and nozzles for the job, then allow the time necessary for surfaces to dry properly.
- Scrape loose paint – It's no fun to scrape, but if we don’t do it, your new paint will not adhere correctly nor last as long as it should. We do this the old-fashioned way, by hand with scraping knives and wire brushes, and we clean up the mess when we are done! If minor repairs are required, we have the personnel to handle them.
- Priming – With the preparation work complete, your building will have a tight, clean surface ready for priming. We treat all exposed surfaces with premium oil and bonding primers that seal the surface and provide a sound foundation for proper adhesion of the new finish coat products.
- Caulking/Glazing – In order to ensure a tight seal and reduce air leaks or moisture entry points in vulnerable areas, any loose glazing is removed and replaced. We use 35-year or rated better caulks on all exterior entrances, structural joints, and wood windows.
- Painting or Staining – This is no time to start cutting corners, and we don’t! Southern Painting contractors use only premium paints and stains from Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Kelly Moore, Bher and more.
